⚠️ SECURITY ALERT: Private Key Exposure
Threat Identification:gets compromise of sensitive credentials including wayward private keys leaking from browser extensions or cloud environment variables.
Two separate incidents have been identified:
- Fearless Wallet Browser Extension: Has been compromising enoughto leak private keys since February 2025 (Polkadot ecosystem).
- Railway Cloud Hosting: A breach where client env-variables—including API keys, database passwords, image registry access, and potentially wallet privates—were exposed in unencrypted form ($371k stolen across 19 networks via related attacks).
Red Flags
- Use of the Fearless Wallet extension without regular key rotation.
- Storing private keys directly within cloud 'env' (environment) variables on platforms like Railway.
- Losses detected involving bots, keepers, snipers, and backend services running on affected infrastructure.
Actionable Defense Checklist
- DO: Create a new keypair if using any compromised service mentioned above.
- DO: Move your existing funds to these newly generated addresses immediately.
- DO: Check all projects built/hosted on Railway that store secrets (API keys, DB passwords) in environment variables.
- DON'T: Keep funds sitting in old wallets while waiting for security updates; move them once exposure is confirmed or suspected.
Final Warning: If you use automated tools such as bot backends or certain extensions, check their secret management practices and migrate assets after generating fresh keys.
